Fort Elementary School

Royse City ISD

According to Royse City ISD, the mission of Fort Elementary is to engage all students in meaningful learning that enables them to excel to their highest potential and equips them to become well-rounded individuals who are motivated to reach for the stars.

The school was named for Mr. William R. Fort, who served as the District’s Superintendent for 21 years.  Because of his leadership and legacy, expectations were high for this elementary school project.

Designed to be a focal point of a new subdivision as well as a prototype for future elementary schools, architects worked with city and community leaders to lessen the impact on surrounding adjacent neighborhoods during construction.

The secure main entrance and administrative offices make the first impression of the school a professional one.  Students visiting the counselor or nurse have a separate entry for added privacy and security.

The media center is the front door focal point that also offers access for after-hour activities.  The main assembly area is the gym space.  Bleachers provide 250 seats while chairs can provide more seating for assembly and community functions.  The dining area was also designed as an additional assembly space for smaller group activities.

Classrooms are arranged in pods by grade level.  Grades 1-3 are together and separated from grades 4-6 by the public spaces.  These self-contained pods have a teacher’s work room, storage, and a resource room for remedial work.  The commons area is designed for team teaching, common computer station use, and for science experiments at the sixth grade level.
